Sabah daily Covid caseload back to four digits, records 1,062 cases today

By Wartawan Nabalu News KOTA KINABALU: After toning down to three digits for the past few days, Sabah today is back with four digits in its Covid-19 daily caseload with1,062 registered today.
Close contacts remain the highest contributors to the caseload with 569 or more than 50 per cent of the total cumulative were reported today.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said, based on the data analysis, the percentage of sporadic cases in Sabah has steadily increased to 251, which is 24 per cent of the total cases.
Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tawau, Tuaran and Sandakan are among the cities that record a high number of sporadic cases, he added.
"A total of 91.05 per cent of the total cases either had mild (654 cases) or no symptoms (313 cases) at all.
“Given the increasing number of new cases including the percentage of sporadic cases, it is crucial for us to further boost our vaccination programme,” he said in a statement today.
The state capital also continued to record the highest number of cases with 239, followed by Tawau 137, Tuaran 114 and Penampang 106, while the districts either recorded one or two digits of cases.
With Pitas classified as a red zone today, the state now has a cumulative total of 25 red zones (each district with more than 41 cases), leaving only Nabawan and Tambunan as orange zones (21-40 cases).
Meanwhile, Masidi who is also the Covid-19 official spokesperson of Sabah said a total of 622 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 79,827.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,460 with 3,432 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,001 at hospitals, 19 in temporary detention centres, and the rest in private facilities.
"To date, there are 122 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 54 of them ventilated," he added.
The death toll in Sabah also continue to increase with nine cases reported today involving several districts in Sabah.
Four fatalities were reported in Kota Kinabalu, two in Sipitang, while one each was recorded in Kudat, Sandakan and Tawau.
