KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP has decided to reappoint two of its assemblymen into the state central committee following the recent departure of its two assemblymen and a former senator.

Sabah DAP Secretary Phoong Jin Zhe said that the party has unanimously decided to co-opt Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin and Kepayan assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang into the state committee during the party emergency meeting on Friday.

Previously, both of them were not re-elected as DAP committee members in the party polls last year.

“Sabah DAP acknowledges that there are weaknesses and shortcomings within its leadership. The State Committee has discussed the matter thoroughly and we admit that the party has to focus and work harder to regain public confidence.

“At the same time, we must unite all grassroot members to overcome these difficult moments. There is a strong call for unity from not only party grassroot members but also our supporters,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, Phoong also expressed his regrets on the resignation of Justin Wong (Sri Tanjong) and Calvin Chong (Elopura) and said that the party will be coordinating to continue to serve the people in Sri Tanjong and Elopura.

“Sabah DAP also reiterates its commitment to fight for the Orang Asal's rights and I sincerely hope that Adrian Lasimbang will reconsider his resignation from DAP,” he added.

Phoong stated the party should focus more on the people's struggle and to stay firm to its principles and value.

“We are confident that by serving the people sincerely and working harder than before, it would help us rebuild back better and we will bounce back and reignite hope for Sabah and Malaysia.

“We have always been and will continue to be steadfast to safeguard the autonomy rights of Sabah as stated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said.
