KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) programme serves as a strategic platform to introduce Sabah’s unique charm to the world while contributing to the state’s economic growth, said Datuk Seri Christina Liew, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Sabah (KePKAS).
"Sabah-MM2H is more than just a visa programme; it is an initiative that highlights Sabah’s vibrant cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and welcoming, diverse communities," she stated at the Sabah-MM2H Open Day Programme held at Magellan Sutera Harbour, today.
She further emphasised the programme’s significant role in stimulating economic activity by attracting long-term residents who invest in the state and contribute meaningfully to local society.
KePKAS also acknowledged the continuous efforts of MM2H agencies in strengthening the programme’s vision of making Sabah a preferred second home for global citizens.
"Your unwavering support and collaboration are crucial in positioning Sabah as a top destination for long-term residency," Liew noted.
The state aims to attract at least 500 applicants for the Sabah-MM2H programme this year, with hopes of increasing participation in the future, as a higher number of applicants will enhance the programme’s success and bring greater benefits to Sabah’s economy.
Additionally, Liew announced that the programme’s criteria would be reviewed in June 2025 to ensure its continued competitiveness and alignment with Sabah’s long-term development goals.
"Launched on December 12, 2024, Sabah-MM2H is still in its early stages," she remarked.
"As with any new initiative, we anticipate challenges, but KePKAS is committed to providing guidance and ensuring a smooth process for all applicants and stakeholders."
She stressed the importance of maintaining Sabah’s appeal as a long-term residency destination while preserving its cultural identity and natural environment.
"Sustainable growth and the protection of what makes Sabah unique must remain central to our efforts," she stated.
Also present during the event were Norita Tani Senior Assistant Secretary for the Sabah MM2H Unit, KePKAS, Datuk Josie Lai Permanent Secretary, KePKAS, Mohammad Zaid Yusof Principal Assistant Secretary, Sabah State Home Affairs & Research Office, Chief Minister's Department and Garry Belayong (Deputy Director, State Immigration Department (Control).
