KOTA KINABALU: The Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (KCCI) and Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will hold a joint Kaamatan-Gawai Celebration 2023 on June 15 and 16 at Magellan Sutera Resort.

The event will feature a golf tournament, a business talk, and a dinner ceremony with traditional performances from the Kadazan-Dusun and Dayak communities.

The celebration, which marks the revival of an annual activity that was stopped due to the pandemic, aims to foster closer ties between the entrepreneurs from Sabah and Sarawak, as well as to share their experiences and challenges in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath.

The event will also witness a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing on setting up a business joint venture between KCCI and DCCI.

The guest of honour for the event will be Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Sabah Finance Minister.

Other notable guests include Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Datuk Ewon Benedick, and State Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Phoong Jin Zhe.

The organisers are expecting a total of 200 entrepreneurs from all levels to attend the business talk, which will include an entrepreneurs dialogue with the guests of honour, and a business-sharing session from the Sabah and Sarawak entrepreneurs.

“We hope this event will be successful to both KCCI and DCCI to continue to be innovative, progressive and dynamic to create new entrepreneurs as well as nurture and assist existing entrepreneurs to grow and develop them further,” said a spokesperson from KCCI.

“Let’s celebrate as this event would certainly assist in the attainment of these goals through culture, sportsmanship, business information and networking,” he added.

The Kaamatan-Gawai Celebration 2023 is an annual activity for both chambers of commerce, but it was stopped for a few years due to the pandemic. This year’s event marks the revival of the collaboration and the celebration of the harvest festivals.
