SABAH SPEAKER TO EXPLAIN SEBATIK ASSEMBLYMAN RESIGNATION ISSUE WEDNESDAY
2 March 2021
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Kadzim M Yahya will clarify tomorrow the issue over the alleged resignation of Hassan A Gani Pg Amir as the Sebatik state assemblyman.
"I will hold a press conference tomorrow to give the official explanation on this matter,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Kadzim said the press conference is scheduled for 11.30 am at the Sabah State Assembly building.
Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua handed over a resignation letter said to be signed by Hassan to Kadzim’s office at 12.15 pm today, urging the Speaker to consider declaring the Sebatik seat vacant.
The resignation letter, dated Feb 26, 2021, said Hassan, in line with his pledge of loyalty to Warisan was resigning with immediate effect as the Sebatik state assemblyman.
The letter also said Hassan understands that his resignation meant that he is not eligible to be a Sabah state assemblyman for five years from the date of the letter.
Attached to the resignation letter was a letter from legal firm Adnan Puteh & Saleh which claimed that it had been appointed by Hassan to submit his resignation letter.
Copies of both letters were shared in a WhatsApp group of Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
In an exclusive interview with Bernama on Feb 25, Hassan announced his resignation from Warisan, alleging that Warisan was giving priority to politics instead of the people’s well-being. However, he did not mention about quitting as state assemblyman.
Hassan said he had become an independent assemblyman supporting the Sabah state government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.
Hassan, who won the Sebatik seat on a Warisan ticket in the state election last year, could not be contacted today. - Bernama
