Sabah to promote its cultural diversity at Malaysia Day celebration in Shanghai

SHANGHAI: Consul General of Malaysia in Shanghai, Syed Farizal Aminy Bin Syed Mohamad has invited Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew to attend the Malaysia Day celebration to be held at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Shanghai.


He extended the invitation during a dinner hosted by the Minister for Malaysian government officials and industry players at Jing An Shangri-La here on Tuesday night.


In response, Liew said the Malaysia Day celebration would be a good opportunity to further promote Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, to the people of Shanghai.


"On our part, we would gladly provide a video package featuring Sabah's cultural dance troupe to be screened at the celebration for the Shanghainese community to get to know Sabah better," she said.


Meanwhile, Syed Farizal informed the Minister that the number of tourists from China to Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, is almost double, since the opening of international borders.


"With the resumption of direct scheduled flights to Sabah by China's major airlines such as China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines, we expect a surge in Chinese tourists from this year onwards," Liew said.


Present were Consul Wizani Rosmin of the Consulate General of Malaysia (Tourism Section) in Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines (Malaysia) General Manager Li Bin and its Deputy General Manager Pang Hong Jie.


The dinner was also attended by Assistant Minister cum STB Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Deputy Permanent Secretary II Alesia Sion, Chief Executive Officer Noredah Othman, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Tay Shu Lan, Senior Marketing Manager Yvonne Chin, Political Secretary to the Minister Vivien Lee and Special Officer to the Minister Robert Penggai.
