13 November 2024
SEMPORNA: The Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, today launched the Semporna District Council Strategic Plan for the period 2024 to 2028, focusing on three main strategic pillars.
The plan, developed through a workshop in early March 2023, comprises 13 strategies and 33 programs expected to be achieved over the next five years.
Joachim, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Housing, stated that the success of this strategic plan relies on the full commitment of all staff members of the Semporna District Council and strong support from the Council Members.
He emphasized that collaborative efforts and a serious sense of responsibility are key to achieving the goals of this plan.
He also urged the staff and Council Members of Semporna District Council to unite in realising the vision of the Council as an organisation that provides the best services to the community.
“It is important for Semporna to become an excellent district in various aspects,” he said at the launch event held in conjunction with his tour programme to monitor the latest developments in Semporna, particularly at the Semporna District Council Office.
During the programme, Joachim visited the site of the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) project, which proposes the relocation of residents from Kampung Air to the Seri Melor - Tinagayan area in Semporna.
He expressed his gratitude and congratulations to all staff of the Semporna District Council, Council Members, and the departments involved in the success of this plan and its programs.
At the event, Joachim and all attendees received a briefing from the Chief Executive Officer of the Semporna District Council, Ali Adam Hamjah.
Joachim was informed that the Semporna district has seen changes, with efforts to clean up waste having commenced.
He hopes that these efforts will continue so that the district becomes cleaner and attracts more tourists from both within the country and abroad.
Additionally, he called for the Semporna District Council to aim for recognition as an "Asean Clean Tourist City Standard," which would add value and have a greater impact on tourists.
Semporna, a globally renowned tourist destination, has long been plagued by waste issues, which are a major challenge for the district.
Therefore, the Semporna District Council is also encouraged to diversify its efforts to make Semporna a clean and beautiful district and tourist destination.
Also present were the Political Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Jonnybone J. Kurum; Deputy Secretary II, Faridah Giau; District Officer and Chairman of the Semporna District Council, Alexander Liew; and Semporna District Police Chief, Superintendent Muhammad Sobri Zainul.
