Seven proposals by DO Semporna to be considered

SEMPORNA: Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew has pledged to present Semporna's proposals for tourism, infrastructure, and economic development to the State Government.


"We will carefully review the proposal documents," she stated in response to Semporna District Officer Alexander Liew during the launch of the 29th Semporna Regatta Lepa Celebration at the Town Square on Saturday night. Liew was representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the opening ceremony.


In his welcoming speech, Alexander, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the Main Organising Committee for the Regatta Lepa Festival, outlined seven key proposals aimed at advancing the district's development:


1. Designating Pulau Bum Bum as a sub-district.


2. Widening the main road entering and exiting Semporna town.


3. Constructing a modern, integrated tourist jetty.


4. Building a dedicated bus terminal for Semporna.


5. Creating a Semporna Cultural Hall.


6. Establishing Dewan Perdana Semporna.


7. Constructing a fish unloading pier for the district.


The Semporna District Officer emphasiaed that these proposals reflect the urgent development requirements of the district from various angles.


"I seize this opportunity to present these proposals to the State Government for review through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment," he added.


Alexander underscored the cultural significance of one specific proposal, stating, "Semporna urgently requires a cultural hall to showcase the district’s rich heritage, particularly indigenous dances, to tourists and visitors. Such facilities will play a pivotal role in boosting the local economy and supporting the local business community."


Also in attendance at the celebration were Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Dr. Ahemad Sade, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment (KePKAS) Datuk Josie Lai, who also chaired the Main Organising Committee for the Regatta Lepa Festival and KePKAS Deputy Permanent Secretary II Alesia Sion.
