St Michael’s Parish suspends masses, activities starting Feb 9 due to Covid

PENAMPANG: The St Michael’s Parish here is temporarily suspending all its masses and activities starting today following Covid-19 positive cases involving parishioners and church leaders.


In a statement today, its parish priest Rev Fr Wilfred Alin said the closure will take effect for seven days and masses as well as necessary church activities will resume of Feb 16.


“We have received more information that most of the Parish Zones have recorded positive cases of Covid-19 infection involving parishioners and Zone church leaders. There are many more close contact cases.


“In view of this rapid rise of rate of infections, and to protect parishioners, all masses and church activities throughout the parish of St. Michael Penampang (all Zones) are suspended with immediate effect for seven days,” he said.


Wilfred also mentioned that the parish will closely monitor developments regarding this situation and will issue an announcement later should there be a need to extend this suspension.


“Parishioners can participate in Sunday masses through live streaming at the following schedule:


• Sunday sunset mass (12/2/2022) at 6.00pm in English

• Sunday mass (13/2/2022) at 8.00am in Kadazan

• Sunday mass (13/2/20220) at 10.00am in Bahasa Malaysia


“Information on how to connect to the above live streaming is available in the Parish website and will also be posted in the appropriate social media. Please note that there will be no Communion drive-thru this weekend.”
