KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government welcomes the allocation of approximately RM25 million from the Federal Government for the urgent repair of infrastructure damaged and destroyed due to floods, landslides, and fires in Sabah and Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that this immediate assistance is essential for repairing the damaged and affected infrastructure caused by the floods in several districts of the state since the beginning of this week.

“This assistance will surely help alleviate the burden faced by the flood victims, as well as repair the infrastructure damages caused by the floods.

“The state government also wishes to extend its gratitude to the federal government for this immediate assistance,” he said here on Friday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the allocation of approximately RM25 million to urgently repair the infrastructure that has been damaged and destroyed due to floods, landslides, and fires in Sabah and Sarawak while speaking at the People's Feast event in Ipoh on Friday.

This allocation also includes immediate assistance of RM1,000 to all families affected by these disasters.

In addition, the Chief Minister stated that the state government is prepared to face the East Monsoon Disaster, with a total of 14,209 human resources from various rescue and safety agencies involved.

“Among them are the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, RELA, and others.

“The total logistics amount to 1,456, which includes land, water, and air logistics. Furthermore, all District Officers, who are the Chairpersons of the District Disaster Management Committees (JPBD), have had their leave frozen to prepare for this year's East Monsoon,” he said.

Hajiji also expressed gratitude to all personnel involved in the rescue operations and the evacuation of victims to safer locations during the floods.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee reported that as of 12 noon on Friday, there were 5,725 victims, 1,939 heads of households, and 73 villages affected by the flood.

A total of 10 districts and sub-districts impacted by the flooding include Beaufort, Kota Marudu, Paitan, Beluran, Kota Belud, Lahad Datu, Tongod, Telupid, Sandakan, and Pitas.

From January 29, 2025, until noon today (Jan 31), 39 Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) have been activated throughout the state.

However, several PPS are also expected to close today after inspections of the affected areas and homes confirm they are safe for residents to return.
