Support association's fundraising efforts for artists

10 October 2024

KOTA  KINABALU: The efforts of Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia to raise funds for artists in need is commendable, said Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew.

She encouraged the public to support the upcoming Charity Dinner themed "Legfundends," which aims to benefit the association's Welfare Fund.

"The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment is committed to providing assistance within its capacity," Christina stated during a recent meeting with a delegation led by the legendary Malaysian singer Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim.

Despite sustaining injuries from a road accident in Beaufort last month, Khadijah, a veteran actress as well, remained spirited and enthusiastic as she briefed the minister about the upcoming fundraising dinner concert.

She said the event will be held on November 1st starting at 8pm at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Apart from herself as an entertainer, ten other Malaysian celebrities who will enliven the evening comprise Man Keedal, Aina Abdul, Dato' Jamal Abdillah, Dato' Ramli Sarip, Jimmy Palikat, Ayu Damit, Azharina Azhar, Mad Sabah, Daniesh Suffian, and Hairee Kool, among others.

According to Khadijah, there are some 7,000 artistes in the country, and many of them are members of Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia, who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Proceeds from the three-hour dinner concert will go towards alleviating the plight of members who are unemployed, wheelchair-bound or require medical treatment," she said, adding that 15 artistes from Sabah are in need of financial aid.

Khadijah was accompanied by two members of her organising committee, Datuk Zahra Ismail and Zorah Khan.

Also present was the Ministry's Permanent Secretary Datuk Josie Lai.
