PENAMPANG: The swift repair of a deteriorating pedestrian drain outside SJKC Yue Min has significantly improved safety in the school’s vicinity, following the proactive intervention of Penampang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ewon Benedick.

The school’s Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to Ewon for his support in facilitating the timely repairs, as well as to the relevant authorities, particularly the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR), for their prompt action in restoring the pedestrian walkway.

Board Chairman Datuk Lim Ming Hoo emphasised the urgency of the repairs, highlighting that the damaged drain had long posed a safety hazard, especially during the rainy season when flooding and slippery conditions put students, parents, and pedestrians at risk.

Chairman Lim Ming Hoo and the board members recently met with Ewon's coordinating officers and JKR officials to address the urgent repair work requirements.

“For years, parents, teachers, and local residents have raised concerns about the worsening condition. The repair work has not only resolved a major infrastructure issue but also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing grassroots concerns,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the school’s administration acknowledged that the restored pedestrian path now provides a much safer environment, reducing the risk of accidents caused by potholes and water accumulation.

The school commended Ewon’s dedication to education and commitment in tackling infrastructure challenges, expressing hope for ongoing collaboration with the Penampang MP and relevant authorities to enhance school facilities with a focus on student and community safety and well-being.

“With collective effort and strong partnerships, we can continue improving the school’s environment, ensuring a safer and more conducive space for learning,” the administration said.
