KOTA KINABALU: Four artistes took to the stage, delivering their unique interpretations of well-known songs with such incredible talent and captivating presence that, had it not been announced beforehand, one would hardly have known they were autistic.

Their performances showcased not only their musical gifts but also their ability to connect with the audience, leaving everyone mesmerised and thoroughly impressed.

The recent Hyperlive Impact Influencer Festival and Awards 2025 took place at the Magellan Sutera, drawing a distinguished audience of notable personalities. Among the attendees were Datuk Eliza Goh, a renowned social entrepreneur and founder of Zara’s Boutique Hotel; Datuk Victor Ationg, Group Managing Director and CEO of Sawit Kinabalu Group; and Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris, Vice Chancellor of the University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF). Other prominent guests included Datin Pauline Leong and Adelyne Velvet from Singapore, the live host of TikTok Singapore. Additionally, Dr. Sean Wong, co-organiser and Chief Executive Officer of HyperLive Entertainment Sdn. Bhd., was present, further enhancing the event’s profile.

The first performance was by Clarence Kang from Malaysia, who captivated the audience with a brilliant piano solo. He began with the traditional Malaysian piece "Rasa Sayang," which he rendered with heartfelt expressiveness, before transitioning to the exhilarating and technically challenging "Flight of the Bumblebee." His remarkable skill and emotional depth were impressive.

Following Clarence, Takuto Koyanagi from Japan took the stage to deliver a breathtaking performance of Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Variation No. 18." His interpretation was a masterful blend of lyrical elegance and virtuosic prowess, evoking admiration from all those present.

The next performance featured Chen Kuan Wen from Taiwan, who delivered a delightful piano solo of "Ode to Joy." His interpretation brought a fresh exuberance to this beloved melody, seamlessly blending both technical precision and emotional warmth, which resonated with the audience.

Following Chen, Zhou Bohan from China took the stage, captivating listeners with his piano solo of "12 Variations on 'Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman.'" Zhou’s adept handling of this intricate work showcased his virtuosity and artistic sensitivity. Each variation was performed with both flair and finesse, highlighting his ability to infuse the familiar theme with his own musical expression. The audience was left in awe of his talent and interpretative depth.

After delivering their awe-inspiring performances, the musicians continued to entertain the audience with their exceptional talent and musical prowess. Clarence stunned listeners with his poignant rendition of the third movement of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," a true showcase of his emotive style and technical skill. Meanwhile, Takuto mesmerised the crowd with his interpretation of Ravel's "Boléro," taking them on a vibrant sonic journey.

Chen Kuan Wen then graced the stage with a captivating violin solo, performing a lively medley of "Lord of the Dance" and the exuberant "Can-can." His energetic playing and engaging presence drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Finally, Zhou Bohan took to the piano to deliver a soulful performance of "Ping Hu Qiu Yue" (Autumn Moon Over the Calm Lake). His delicate touch and heartfelt interpretation left a lasting impression. They went on to awe the audience with their talented performances.

All of these talented artistes were honoured with Asia’s Icon of Inspiration Award, in recognition of their remarkable performances and unwavering perseverance in achieving beyond expectation. Their dedication to their craft and commitment to excellence serve as a testament to the rewards of hard work.

These musicians exemplify the success that comes from relentless effort and the invaluable support of their families. Each one of them has faced their own unique challenges and obstacles along the way but has triumphed through determination and passion for their art. Their stories inspire others to pursue their dreams, reminding us that with dedication and the right support network, extraordinary achievements are within reach.

During the event, the guest of honour, Assistant Finance Minister  Datuk Tan Lee Fatt said the world-class, award-winning autistic pianists have not only defied the odds but have also showcased the unwavering power of passion, discipline, and dedication.

“Their success is not theirs alone; behind every note they play and every triumph they celebrate, there are parents, siblings, teachers, and friends who have stood by them, believed in them, and provided the love and support essential for their growth.”

“This evening is historic, as it marks the first time in Malaysia that four world-class autistic pianists are performing together on one stage, and it is happening right here in Sabah."

" This powerful concert demonstrates that greatness knows no limits, and resilience has no boundaries. These musicians are living proof that talent, when nurtured and supported, can transcend any challenge. This is why we must continue to advocate for autism awareness."

"We must champion inclusivity, create opportunities, and ensure that every child, regardless of their abilities, has the chance to develop their talents and fulfill their dreams. Let this evening remind us all that, with the right support, encouragement, and belief, anything is possible.”
