KOTA BELUD: The Tamu Desa at Kampung Melangkap Tiong is set to welcome vendors to its brand-new establishment in the coming days.

This transition marks a significant improvement, as vendors will be relocating from their previous location to a more spacious and accommodating venue.

Dominik Kandai, a spokesperson for the Tamu Desa, shared that the vibrant marketplace currently hosts over 20 regular vendors.

However, depending on circumstances such as local events or festivities, this number can rise significantly, welcoming even more sellers and offerings.

He emphasised that the new Tamu Desa building is a much-needed upgrade from their old space, which was too cramped to effectively support the growing vendor community.

The new structure boasts dimensions of 30 feet by 40 feet on one side and 10 feet by 20 feet on the other, providing ample room for vendors to showcase their products and for customers to browse comfortably.

The Tamu Desa operates every Saturday, transforming the area into a lively hub of activity and excitement. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a more enjoyable experience as they explore the diverse offerings from local vendors in this improved setting.

With its expanded facilities, the Tamu Desa is poised to enhance the community's shopping experience and strengthen local commerce.

"Currently, there are around 20 vendors participating, but this number can increase during special events or peak seasons when more people come out to sell their goods. The vendors offer a diverse array of products, including fresh vegetables, an assortment of fruits like bananas, and other seasonal fruits.”

“In addition to the market, we are also actively engaged in tourism initiatives, with 139 families  dedicated to caring for the river that flows through this region," he explained, gesturing at the river flowing alongside the Tamu Desa.

It flows gently, weaving through lush greenery and vibrant flora that frame its banks, creating a picturesque backdrop for visitors enjoying the market's offerings.

This enchanting river is not just a feast for the eyes; it is also home to a variety of tame fish that inhabit its clear waters. These little creatures, known for their friendly demeanor, have become a delightful attraction for both locals and visitors.

Many come specifically for the unique experience of a natural foot spa. As people dip their feet into the cool, refreshing current, the fish happily gather around, nibbling gently on dead skin, providing a delightful and rejuvenating sensation.

"This is one of the unique offerings we provide for our visitors. Additionally, we are committed to contributing to environmental conservation through our tourism initiatives."

"Currently, there is no accommodation available, but there is a well-maintained camping ground managed by the Melangkap Tiong Eco-Tourism Cooperative.

Regarding their livelihoods, he explained that most residents are farmers and rubber tappers. They cultivate rice and various food crops. A few have taken up oil palm planting, while others have sought employment opportunities elsewhere.

They aspire to enhance their tourism offerings, he noted, expressing their hopes to establish accommodations in the form of container-style homes.

The RM200,000 to develop Melangkap Tiong Tamu Desa was announced by the Kadamaian State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick, to improve the area's tamu desa which had been operating for several years. The traditional tamu needed some upgrades and the funds will contribute tremendously towards the upgrading of the establishments.

Dominik emphasized his deep gratitude to Ewon for his contributions, saying that the Minister has consistently shown unwavering support for the community, demonstrating his genuine concern for their well-being.
