KOTA BELUD: The symbolic handover of three Tamu Desa (rural market) premises to their respective representatives held significant meaning for the recipients. This ceremony was conducted by Kadamaian State Assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick during the MADANI KUSKOP Together with the Community Christmas Celebrations at Kadamaian Square yesterday.
Kundian Sumbin who represented Kg Melangkap Tiong said he was happy with the handover and believes that it will help them grow as a community. The implication is that the Tamu Desa is theirs and they are going to hold various activities that will benefit the community.
The new Tamu Desa structure features dimensions of 30 feet by 40 feet on one side and 10 feet by 20 feet on the other, ensuring ample space for vendors to showcase their products and for customers to browse comfortably. Operating every Saturday, the market transforms the area into a lively hub of activity where residents and visitors can enjoy diverse offerings from local vendors.
In addition to the market, 139 families are actively caring for the nearby river, which flows gently through lush greenery, creating a picturesque backdrop for visitors. This enchanting river is home to a variety of friendly fish that attract locals and tourists alike, offering a unique natural foot spa experience where the fish nibble gently on feet, providing a refreshing sensation.
“Our next addition will be an eatery which we will build nearby the present building at the entrance,” he enthused, adding that Datuk Ewon Benedick had been instrumental in incepting the Tamu Desa.
Salumin Kundoyop who represent Kg Gaur Tamu Desa echoed Kundian saying that he was very happy with the symbolic handover.
According to him, some 40 vendors benefit from the Tamu Desa Building where they meet during a weekly tamu, selling various products. The Tamu Desa is a hub for activities for the community
The Representative from Tamu Desa at Kg Pinolobuh, Jalni Mison expressed that the presentation holds deep significance for him and the local community, as it enhances their services beyond the weekly market every Monday. This vibrant marketplace serves as a dynamic hub of activity, featuring approximately 60 vendors who showcase a wide variety of goods.
Shoppers can discover an enticing selection of pre-cooked meals, traditional snacks, fresh vegetables, essential household items, and even fruit seedlings, among many other offerings. The lively atmosphere buzzes with the sounds of cheerful bargaining and animated conversations, creating a festive ambiance that attracts both locals and visitors alike.
“We have a range of activities planned for the venue. We intend to make the most of it, as it truly belongs to us,” Jalni added.
“We have several programmes in the pipeline, including health talks. Additionally, we plan to host our celebrations there, such as the harvest festival, Hari Raya festivities, weddings, and other community events.”
Jalni expressed, “We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Datuk Ewon for his steadfast support in developing various facilities in our village. His efforts have made a significant impact on both the vendors and the local community, as well as enhancing the experience for Tamu customers.”
