TEKUN approved financing of RM337.7 million for 31,996 entrepreneurs in Penang from 1998 until June 2024

BAYAN LEPAS (PENANG): TEKUN National has approved financing totalling RM337.7 million for 31,996 entrepreneurs in Penang from 1998 until June this year.


Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick said that during the same period, TEKUN National has disbursed financing to 806,223 entrepreneurs amounting to RM9.49 billion across the country.


He stated that the financing was channelled through 174 branch offices providing services in all 222 parliamentary constituencies throughout Malaysia.


"For 2024, TEKUN National has approved 19,438 financings totalling RM401 million nationwide.


"Meanwhile, for Penang, a total of 682 financings amounting to RM12.7 million have been approved through seven TEKUN branch offices serving 13 parliamentary constituencies throughout Penang," he said.


He said this while speaking at the Tekun Madani Carnival in the state of Penang, at the SP Arena Convention Centre in Seberang Jaya, here, today.


The carnival was officiated by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.


Ewon said that in Budget 2024, the government allocated RM330 million to TEKUN National to assist informal and micro-entrepreneurs in their businesses.


"This amount includes RM30 million allocated to Indian community entrepreneurs under the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (SPUMI)," he said.


He further mentioned that this year, TEKUN National aims to disburse RM800 million to 45,670 informal and micro-entrepreneurs nationwide.


"This means that TEKUN National will utilise internal allocations of RM470 million, including RM30 million for the implementation of SPUMI Goes Big," he said.


At the event, the Successful Tekun Entrepreneur Award for the State of Penang was presented to 10 Tekun entrepreneurs as recognition of their outstanding success in their respective businesses.


Ewon hoped that the success of these entrepreneurs would serve as a source of inspiration for other entrepreneurs to continue to thrive and achieve outstanding success in their chosen businesses.


Also present were the Deputy Chief Minister 1 of Penang, Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Kuskop Datuk Ramanan, Chief Secretary of Kuskop Dato’ Sri Suriani Ahmad, Heads of Departments, as well as representatives from federal and state departments and agencies.
