KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all Malaysians to embrace the spirit of unity, appreciate cultural diversity, and strengthen bonds of love as the Hindu community celebrates Thaipusam today.
He emphasized that for Hindus, Thaipusam is more than just a religious festival—it embodies perseverance, determination, and sacrifice in overcoming life’s challenges. It also reflects inner strength and discipline in the face of adversity.
“Beyond that, Thaipusam showcases the essence of unity within diversity in our nation. It serves as a powerful reminder of how a society can come together in an environment of mutual respect, harmony, and kinship,” Anwar stated in a Facebook post.

He highlighted how the gathering of thousands of Hindus to fulfill vows and make sacrifices is a testament to collective resilience, illustrating a community deeply rooted in human values, love, and understanding.
In light of the world’s growing uncertainties, Anwar stressed the importance of mutual respect and acceptance of differences as fundamental pillars of unity.
He urged Malaysians to view cultural diversity as a source of strength rather than division.
“This diversity enriches Malaysia, making it a nation celebrated for its cultural heritage and noble values—earning admiration both within the region and globally,” he said.
Anwar also reminded Malaysians to cherish their multicultural landscape as an opportunity to foster love and understanding, rather than inciting hatred.
He cautioned that the nation’s stability and progress could be jeopardized if differences are amplified while harmony is neglected.
Thus, he called on all peace-loving Malaysians to embrace and appreciate unique cultural celebrations like Thaipusam, reinforcing the principles of coexistence.
Only through mutual understanding and respect, he said, can the country continue to thrive with dignity, unity, and prosperity for all.
