TRADERS RENTING UITM PREMISES GET ADDITIONAL SIX-MONTH EXEMPTION
28 JAN 2021
SHAH ALAM: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has provided a six-month extension on rental exemption to traders renting its premises nationwide, said vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Azraai Kassim.
He said this was part of the UiTM Prihatin initiative to ease the burden of its tenants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This special exemption is given automatically to all 718 eligible tenants, with a rental income value of about RM2.74 million, from Oct 1 2020 until March 30,” he said in a statement today.
He said the initiative was in line with the recommendation by the Minister of Higher Education (Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad) for institutions of higher learning to understand the difficulties and constraints faced by traders affected by the pandemic.
“Although this will affect UiTM’s income, this is an additional incentive and the second time it is being implemented after the first six-month exemption from April to September last year. The university’s top management is sympathetic and understands that many traders are affected when the majority of students are not on campus and study from home via online,” he said.
Azraai added that it was hoped that the additional exemption would provide some relief to the affected tenants and enable them to make new plans accordingly about their businesses. -Bernama
