KUALA LUMPUR: Trend Micro, a global player in cybersecurity, is urging the government to stay alert against potential cyberattacks on the nation's infrastructure, which may provide a gateway to sensitive and personal data. Trend Micro Malaysia and Nascent Countries managing director, Goh Chee Hoh said it is crucial for government agencies to stay vigilant, secure all vulnerable endpoints, and keep systems and applications patched and up-to-date. "The recent alert from The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) for government agencies to brace for a cyberattack from malicious players underscores the need to secure the nation’s data, information technology (IT) infrastructure and systems," he said in a statement today.

Therefore, Trend Micro has underlined several security best practices, including ensuring all hardware and software are patched, using strong passwords and applying zero-trust policies for users. Organisations also need to ensure employees are up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity practices, and activate contingency plans as well as backups to minimise the potential losses of data and other information. Goh said the hacktivism threat posted by groups such as Anonymous Malaysia recently is the biggest challenge for security professionals, hence they need to be on-call and ready to resolve any security incident.

"As it is almost impossible to determine what will be attacked and how, it is important to be ready to resolve the issue and make the successful hack as short-lived as possible," he added. - Bernama
