UCSF Entrepreneurship Carnival 2024 highlights students endeavours

19 August 2024

KOTA KINABALU: In a recent event held at the UCSF Campus, the UCSF Entrepreneurship Carnival 2024 showcased students from the Basic Entrepreneurship course as vendors.

These students, representing various faculties including the Faculty of Management and Entrepreneurship (FME), Faculty of Arts and Creative Media (FACM), Faculty of Development and Multicultural Studies (FDMS), and Faculty of Natural Science & Sustainability (FNSS) actively participated in this event as part of their academic curriculum.

The primary goal of the carnival was to offer UCSF students a practical, hands-on entrepreneurial experience.

During the event, students had the platform to present and sell the products or services they had developed, gaining valuable insights into customer engagement, professional communication and promotional strategies.

Furthermore, the event aimed at bolstering students’ financial literacy by imparting knowledge on managing small-scale finances and effectively growing capital.

The carnival showcased 32 booths presenting a diverse array of products and services, ranging from food and beverages to photobooths, games, and entertainment.

Attendance at this event was compulsory for the 267 students enrolled in the Basic Entrepreneurship course, a requirement for both degree and diploma programs. This course is administered by the Centre of Languages and Generic Development (CLGD).

Organised by instructors from the Faculty of Management and Entrepreneurship (FME), the carnival took place in the UCSF Lobby.

To offer support and motivation to the students, Dr. Rafiq Idris, the Vice-Chancellor of UCSF, personally visited each booth, providing guidance and encouragement to the participants.

Dr. Amy, a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship, highlighted that the UCSF Entrepreneurship Carnival 2024 could potentially enhance students' community engagement by inspiring them to introduce their innovative products and services.

This objective is in line with the carnival's aim of providing students with practical experience, enabling them to showcase their creations, plan for capital growth, develop marketing strategies, engage professionally with customers, and formulate business tactics.

Dr. Rafiq, the Vice-Chancellor of UCSF, emphasised that this initiative is part of UCSF's ongoing efforts to cultivate entrepreneurial interest among students.

He stated, "At UCSF, in addition to fostering environmental literacy, we are committed to nurturing students who are financially literati and digitally adept. We have plans to organise more entrepreneurship-related programs for our students in the future'.
