Upgrading of Penampang to a Municipality discussed during a courtesy call

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick received a visit from members of the Penampang District Council (MDPg) at the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers (MKBR) here today.

The visit was led by the Chairman of MDPg, who is also the District Officer of Penampang, Francis Chong, and accompanied by Deputy Chairman Chong Pit Fah, members of the Penampang District Council, executive officers, and engineers.


Various matters were discussed, including the upgrading of Penampang's status to a Municipal Council, paid parking in Donggongon township, and the upcoming national-level Hawkers and Small Traders Day (HPPK) celebration to be held in Penampang in December.


During the visit, Ewon also provided a brief explanation of training programmes and entrepreneurial development financing schemes that can be utilised by entrepreneurs in Sabah, especially in the 2024 budget.


A briefing on paid parking was delivered by MDPg Engineer Jonathan Lindua. Paid parking has been proposed since 2016 and will be implemented next year.

Regarding the HPPK celebration in Penampang in early December, which is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Francis said that they will cooperate with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives to ensure the success of the event.


During the event, Ewon contributed RM30,000 in support of the Penampang contingent participating in the Sabah Games in December.
