Vision School Sandakan send four chess playersfor national tourney

SANDAKAN: Four exceptional chess players from Vision School Sandakan proudly represented their city in the state-level competition, facing off against top talents from across Sabah.


Among them, Year 5 student Lim Shu Zheng emerged as the victor, earning the prestigious opportunity to represent Sabah in the forthcoming national MSSM Chess Competition.


The selection camp was organized with the aim of identifying the most skilled contestants to compete in the national tournament, set to take place from September 14 to 19, 2024, in Johor.


Lim Shu Zheng will showcase his prowess in the U-12 Boys category, a remarkable achievement that has brought immense pride to both his school and the city of Sandakan.


In addition to Lim Shu Zheng's impressive performance, three other talented representatives excelled in their respective categories: Isaac Chung Vui Ken (U-12 Boys), Quek Kiing Shing (U-12 Boys), and Christal Glory Christopher (U-15 Girls).


Under the mentorship of their dedicated teacher, Jennyfer Jonius, these four students progressed from the Sandakan district competition to the statewide tournament, delivering outstanding results that underscore the exceptional educational standards upheld by the school.


With each state sending their top 6 players in every age category to the national competition, Lim Shu Zheng is poised to compete against the nation's most skilled young chess enthusiasts. Their participation and continued success is anticipated.
