KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Heritage Party (Warisan) has hailed the stand of His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah that the State of Emergency should not be extended beyond Aug 1.

A statement issued by the party today said it is shown that the King and the Malay Rulers concern about the plights of the people in the country throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The number of Covid-19 fatalities has not shown any reduction throughout the emergency period but the daily caseload continues to rise instead.

"This situation is very concerning as it not only affects the nation's economy but also the safety and wellbeing of the health institutions and the people," the statement read.

Many countries did not proclaim emergency but still manage to handle the pandemic effectively and ease the immunisation programmes for their people, it added.

"The King's and Malay Rulers' view on reconvening Parliament also coincide with the effort of every representative from every party in helping the people burdened by the pandemic.

"By reopening Legislature to allow the reconvening of Parliament, discussions on the Emergency Ordinance and National Recovery Plan, especially involving the expenses related to Covid-19, can be studied more effectively," it stated.
