Water Rationing burdens consumers-UPKO Youth

PENAMPANG: The water rationing here had evoked numerous complaints from consumers.
United Progressive Kinabalu Organization (UPKO) Penampang Youth Chief Billy Joe Dominic said he understand that the Telibong 2 Plant has been completed.
However, it appears that there has been no significant improvement in the water situation in Penampang.
"I have been informed that it will take time for the plant to operate at full capacity due to incomplete pipe installations."
"What we'd like to know is how much longer will it take to resolve the water issues in Penampang."
He inquired about the anticipated timeline set by the Water Department to address the water rationing problems in Penampang.
"If our water supply is insufficient, why are so many new condominium developments on the west coast being approved? Isn’t this likely to increase water usage even further?"
Addressing the water issues on the west coast requires a focus on balanced development, he stated.
"We are witnessing excessive development without adequate water and electricity supply, which ultimately burdens the residents and communities."
He stated that the recent flash floods in Kapayan illustrate the consequences of unbalanced development, where infrastructure such as drains has not been properly constructed or upgraded to meet current demands.
"I recommend that for all new developments on the west coast, particularly in Penampang, there must be careful consideration of adequate drainage systems, water supply, and electricity before any approvals are granted," he stressed.
